I study the incidence and progression of tsunami evacuation behavior by interviewing residency who experienced a disaster and analyzing their thinking and movement data during a disaster. I also conduct disaster education to improve local disaster preparedness and study effective disaster education methods. Key Words Evacuation Behavior / Quantitative Research / Interview Survey / Disaster Education / Disaster Learning Research Activities To save lives from the tsunami, it is important for every person to quickly and properly evacuate. Therefore, I interviewed people who experienced the Great East Japan Earthquake to analyze how people evacuated during the disaster and what factors promoted or hindered their evacuation activities. This analysis has revealed behavioral trends during the disaster in the surveyed area. I'm currently conducting surveys in different domains to gather narratives about evacuation behaviors, to analyze more general trends in evacuation behaviors, and to conduct experiments to elucidate how factors that inhibit evacuation behaviors work. Since the Great East Japan Earthquake, disaster education has been actively conducted in elementary and junior high schools. Disaster education often performed as part of inquiry-based learning, and it is required to work not only as a disaster training but also as inquiry-based learning. I'm currently working with teachers in primary and junior high school to create learning programs for inquiry-based learning on the topic of disaster prevention. It is important to continue my research to enable many schools to perform effective disaster education that meet their needs.
