To address this problem, Japan's Ministry of Health, Labour and Welfare (MHLW) established a committee, which in 2007 recommended the creation of a mental health network that included a central hospital from each prefecture of Japan. Following the committee report, the MHLW provided support to those prefectures that agreed to participate in the network. To date, 14 prefectures have joined the network and the NCCHD is designated as its Central Base Hospital. We support participating hospitals by providing information and evidence-based assessments and treatment, facilitating communication between prefectures, and assessing the validity of the network through our database.
